Notes of Interest:

As hard as it might be to believe Brendan Gaughan has never raced a Craftsman Truck at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The fast Atlanta track was added to the Craftsman Truck Series schedule in 2004 ---- when the tour made just one early season appearance. Gaughan was shut out for this event earlier this year when his No. 77 lacked the owner’s history needed under NASCAR’s new for 2005 starting rules.

Gaughan ran a Nextel Cup car here, in 2004.

Gaughan on the EasyCare Vehicle Service 200:

“Earlier in the season, the Orleans team, we went out to Atlanta Motor Speedway under the first five race qualifying rules. We qualified 19th and they sent us home. So we’ve got a little bit to prove there.

“This is going to be my first truck race at Atlanta because we didn’t race at Atlanta when I was in the Truck Series before. But we did used to go test there a lot. So I’ve been there in a truck and it’s fun. It’s just big and fast and multi- multi-groove. Man, you just let it eat, just like my favorite place Texas.

“In the Nextel Cup car I actually didn’t run half bad there. It’s a big, fast place. Just like Texas and my other favorite places. We think we’ve got most of the stuff fixed nowadays. The No. 77 truck is one of our four brand new trucks and Scott Lynch has one of our four brand new trucks.

“We had a test there a couple weeks ago and it went really well. We actually were the fastest truck again at a test. So we feel fairly confident and like I’ve been saying we are back. Martinsville was not a good example of it because I’ve always said that I hate Martinsville. I think we’ve got a good shot at Atlanta this week and I want to get off this slide.”

“Atlanta is very much like Charlotte used to be. It’s very much like Texas or even a Michigan where it has a lot of grooves. Anybody who has watched has seen one driver up at the wall at Atlanta and one driver on the white line and both of them are just as fast. You’ve just got to find out where your truck wants to race. That’s the big thing. Where does your truck feel comfortable? You make it work and make it fast there.”
