WORLD OF OUTLAWS LATE MODEL SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP
Date: 10/25/2005
BATESVILLE, AR - - Billy Moyer and the #21 Banner Valley Hauling/Petroff Towing/J&J Steel/McCarthy’s One Hour Rayburn team has impressed with a strong season that includes ten feature wins to date but “Mr. Smooth” is still focused on the remaining task at hand – the hotly-contested World of Outlaws’ Late Model Series Championship. The legendary driver who has a renowned “outlaw” style and has traditionally eluded point racing in preference of the independent trail currently holds a slim ten point lead over fellow contracted “Dirty Dozen” member Steve Francis in the 2005 title hunt.
Moyer collected two consecutive World of Outlaws’ titles in 1988 and 1989 before DIRT Motorsports resurrected the series in 2004. He is seeking his third WoO title while Francis is in search of his first WoO championship. Half of the #21 team’s ten victories in 2005 came under the WoO banner. Going into this weekend’s series’ finale at Volusia Raceway Park, Francis also has five wins on the WoO trail and both drivers visited YJ Stinger™ Victory Lane at the Florida speedplant when the tour stopped for February Speedweeks. The stage is set for an awesome showdown where winner takes all at the October 30th Championship Banquet in Daytona Beach, FL.
“We’re in the final stretch now and it’s come down to the wire,” commented Moyer. “We started in Florida back in February and had solid performances so hopefully luck doesn’t fail us now. The team has worked hard to be up front all year long and we had our share of trouble but we put ourselves in a good position going into the finale. We’ve had a good season but coming home with that championship would make it complete but that’s what we’re all gunning after. Two more wins first and then that title. So we all have the same agenda, I just hope we get there first.”
Moyer, Francis and the rest of the “Dirty Dozen” will converge at Georgia’s Golden Isles Speedway on Wednesday, October 26th, for the “Lloyd’s Land Clearing 50” before trekking back to Florida for the inaugural “Gator 100” two-day series finale this weekend at Volusia.
